Q: What age range can get involved with Heartwork?
The focus of Heartwork is to help engage the youth of this generation in the global Orphan Crisis. The targeted age group is junior high through college age. Adults are encouraged to get involved by matching funds of a student group.
Q: Is Heartwork a registered 501(c)3?
Yes, Heartwork is registered as a non-profit 501(c)3, which means that all checks written out to Heartwork are tax deductible. Giving statements will be mailed to the address you provide no later than January 31.
Q: Can a student be a group leader?
Yes. There is no age limit for a leader.
Q: I’m not 13 yet... Can I still create a profile?
Yes. If you are younger than 13 but still want to get involved, just make sure that you have parental permission before creating your own profile.
Q: Are there any resources available to help present Heartwork to my group?
Yes, view the Resources tab at the top bar of the website. Graphics, logos, videos, and fundraising ideas are available for you to use however you need. In addition, one of the best resources available are the stories of other groups that have completed orphan projects. Their stories can be viewed under the “blog” tab.
Q: Can our group partner with an organization that is not listed on the Heartwork website?
Yes, if your group has a church or ministry that it is already connected to an organization who is meeting the needs of orphans, you may adopt one of their needs as your project and be a part of the 1K Campaign (1000 groups completing 1000 orphan projects in 1000 days). This project will be listed on our site as “in process” under your group. However, if the ministry would like other projects to be listed on the website for additional student groups to be able to choose from, they must then go through the Orphan Alliance to become an approved Heartwork partner. Contact Tarah at tarah@heartwork.tv for additional details on becoming an approved Heartwork partner orphan care organization.
Q: What role does the Christian Alliance for Orphans play in Heartwork?
The Alliance provides all of the projects listed on the Heartwork site under the projects tab. The Christian Alliance for Orphans is designed to motivate and unify the body of Christ to live out God’s mandate to care for the orphan. Members of the Alliance are required to embody the highest commitment to financial integrity, effective practices, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. All projects listed on the Heartwork website have gone through the due diligence process of joining the Alliance, and are committed to operating within the guidelines set out before them through the Alliance. If you have an Orphan project you would like to list on the website for other groups to be able to adopt, the respective organization must go through the Orphan Alliance to become an approved project on the Heartwork website. More Info on the Alliance can be viewed at www.christian-alliance-for-orphans.org.
Q: How do people give money toward my Heartwork project?
There are two ways that a person can give toward your project. The first is that they can give with a credit or debit card on via the “donate” button on your group page or project page. (Please note: Donations given through the general “donate” tab are used for Heartwork operations). The second way a person can give is by mailing in a check to Heartwork at 90 S. Cascade suite 330 Colorado Springs, CO 80903 and noting your group and project on the memo line. If someone gives you cash for your project, you can simply deposit that into your bank account and then mail a check for the exact amount of the cash you deposited.
Q: How much of my giving goes toward my project?
80% of your donated funds go directly to the orphan care site. The industry standard is that orphan care organizations retain around 20% of raised funds for administrative expenses. Most of our partners operate at that rate in their organization as a whole, but what Heartwork asks is that each Heartwork project be set at a fixed 80% / 20% model. 80% to the field and 20% to administrative costs to be split between the orphan care organization and Heartwork. The orphan care organization agrees to keep only 10% and Heartwork retains 10% to help cover our expenses.
Q: Do projects need to be funded within a certain amount of time?
The goal of Heartwork’s 1k Campaign is that by March of 2013 there would be 1000 student groups that have completed 1000 orphan projects. There is no time limit for a group to have finished raising money for their project, but we strongly encourage groups to set aside a specific amount of time (30 days, 60 days, or 90 days) to complete your Heartwork orphan project.
Q: Why should I do my Heartwork project in a group rather than on my own?
You can accomplish a great deal on your own, but it’s even better when you allow others in the process as well. It’s said that one horse can pull up to 6 tons of weight on its own, but when two horses are pulling next to each other, they can pull not just 12 tons, but 36 tons! We need each other for encouragement, motivation, creativity, and fun. This doesn’t mean you can’t do a project on your own, but we strongly recommend it.
Q: Can I raise above and beyond what I originally committed to doing for my Heartwork project?
Of course! If you out-give your original goal, more power to you! Once your first Heartwork project has been 100% funded it will be “closed” to additional online donations, but you can simply adopt an identical Heartwork project or adopt a completely different one! Your group page will keep a running list of all of the projects that your group has completed. If you know that your mailed-in and online donations have exceeded your original project goal, no worries, the Heartwork staff will make sure that those extra dollars are given to your adopted project unless you let us know that you’d like to apply the money to a new project!
Q: What happens if my group adopts a Heartwork project but never finishes it?
If for one reason or another your group isn’t able to finish the Heartwork project you took on, it’s not the end of the world! You won’t be able to get back any of the money you or your group gave toward your project, but the money will still go toward saving orphans around the world. If a project with partial funding remains inactive for a year’s time, the Heartwork staff will put that money toward the project with the most imminent need.
Q: Anything we missed?
Feel free to email info@heartwork.tv with your question, and one of the Heartwork team members will get back to you as quickly as possible.
