The questions we ask ourself say a lot about us. Our minds are constantly scanning life for the path of least resistance and to answer the easy questions. As Christ followers, we’ve been invited into a deep story– a big story– filled with large and sometimes perplexing questions. But friends, let’s have the courage to ask these questions together!

Jesus asked Peter in Matthew 16- “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” And Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus asked Peter a difficult question and was met with an honest and faith filled answer.

Who do we see Jesus as? Is he a kind and loving friend? Is he a domineering father?

How we see Jesus defines us. It means everything about how we see the world.  In order to answer this question, “Who is Jesus?”, we need to go to the source of truth, God’s Word….study, dig, deepen the fullness of your understanding of who this God is that you serve!

A great place to start is to study the attributes of God. There are plenty of resources with lists of hundreds of “names of God”. Choose a few a day… look up the definition in the dictionary and find the verses in the Bible where this name is used. Commit to a couple months of this practice with the goal of really getting to know WHO HE IS!

The better we understand the character of our Father, the more we will live in his light and love. His ways really are higher, and he embodies love. We can rest in dependance and trust knowing his sovereignly good, wholly loving, and radiantly true.
